항복문서8조에 8. 카이로 선언의 요구 조건들이 이행될 것이며 일본의 주권은 혼슈와 연합군이 단 한번도 독도를 일본 땅이란 일이 없다. 센프란시스코6차 초안에 미국이 독도를 일본 땅이라고 했고 다른 나라가 반대를 하여 7차 부터는 독도 말이 없었다.

Issued, at Potsdam, July 26, 1945
1945년 7월 26일 포츠담에서 발표
1. We-the President of the United States, the President of the National Government of
the Republic of China, and the Prime Minister of Great Britain, representing the hundreds of
millions of our countrymen, have conferred and agree that Japan shall be given an opportunity to end this war.
1. 수억의 우리 동포들을 대표하여 우리들 미합중국의 대통령중화민국 국민 정부의 총통
그리고 영국의 수상은 일본에게 이 전쟁을 끝낼 기회를 주어야 한다는 것에 대해 협의했고 합의에 이르렀다.
2. The prodigious land, sea and air forces of the United States, the British Empire and
of China, many times reinforced by their armies and air fleets from the west,
are poised to strike the final blows upon Japan. This military power is sustained and
inspired by the determination of all the Allied Nations to prosecute the war against
Japan until she ceases to resist.
2. 서부에서 여러 차례에 걸쳐 지상군과 공군 전력을 증강해 온 미합중국, 대영제국과
중국의 엄청난 육해공군은 일본을 향한 최후의 일격을 가할 태세를 마쳤다. 이 군사력은
일본이 저항을 멈출 때까지 전쟁을 수행할 연합국의 투지에 의해 유지되고 또 고무되었다.
3. The result of the futile and senseless German resistance to the might of the
aroused free peoples of the world stands forth in awful clarity as an example to
the people of Japan. The might that now converges on Japan is immeasurably
greater than that which, when applied to the resisting Nazis, necessarily laid waste to
the lands, the industry and the method of life of the whole German people.
The full application of our military power, backed by our resolve, will mean
the inevitable and complete destruction of the Japanese armed forces and
just as inevitably the utter devastation of the Japanese homeland.
3. 각성한 전 세계 자유인들의 힘에 대한 독일의 무의미하고 헛된 저항의 결과는
일본 인민들에게 하나의 사례로써 지독하고 명확하게 다가온다. 이제 일본에
집중되는 그 힘은 저항하는 나치에 가했을 때, 어쩔 수 없이 모든 독일 인민들의
산업과 삶의 터전인 땅들을 초토화시켰을 때보다도 가늠할 수 없을 만큼 강력하다.
우리의 결의가 지지하는 우리의 모든 군사력의 적용은 일본군의 완벽하고 필연적인
전멸과 그에 따라 어쩔 수 없는 일본인의 고향의 철저한 파멸을 의미할 것이다.
4. The time has come for Japan to decide whether she will continue to be controlled
by those self-willed militaristic advisers whose unintelligent calculations have brought
the Empire of Japan to the threshold of annihilation, or whether she will follow the
path of reason.
4. 일본이 일본 제국을 절멸의 문턱까지 끌고 온 우둔한 계산을 한 아집에 찬 군국주의자
조언자들에게 계속 지배당할 것인지, 아니면 이성으로 향하는 길을 따를 것인지를 결정
할 시간이 도래했다.
5. Following are our terms. We will not deviate from them. There are no alternatives.
We shall brook no delay.
5. 아래는 우리의 요구 조건이다. 우리는 이 요구 조건에서 벗어나지 않을 것이다.
다른 대안은 없다. 우리는 어떤 지연도 용납하지 않을 것이다.
6. There must be eliminated for all time the authority and influence of those who have
deceived and misled the people of Japan into embarking on world conquest,
for we insist that a new order of peace, security and justice will be impossible
until irresponsible militarism is driven from the world.
6. 반드시 일본의 인민들을 세계 정복에 착수시킴으로써 기만하고 잘못 이끈 자들의
권력과 영향력을 영원히 제거해야한다. 우리는 새로운 평화의 질서, 안전과 정의가
무책임한 군국주의를 지구상에서서 몰아내지 않는 한 불가능할 것이라고 주장하는
바이기 때문이다.
7. Until such a new order is established and until there is convincing proof that Japan's
war-making power is destroyed, points in Japanese territory to be designated by
the Allies shall be occupied to secure the achievement of the basic objectives we
are here setting forth.
7. 이러한 새로운 질서가 확립될 때까지, 그리고 일본이 전쟁을 일으킬 만한 힘이
남아있지 않다는 설득력 있는 증거가 생길 때까지, 우리가 주장한 필수적인 목표들을
확실하게 달성하기 위해 연합군은 일본 내의 특정 지점들을 지정하고 점령할 것이다.
8. The terms of the Cairo Declaration shall be carried out and Japanese sovereignty
shall be limited to the islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku and such minor
9. The Japanese military forces, after being completely disarmed, shall be permitted
to return to their homes with the opportunity to lead peaceful and productive lives..
9. 일본군은 완전히 무장해제된 후, 평화롭고 생산적인 삶을 살 수 있도록 집으로 돌아갈 수 있다.>
10. We do not intend that the Japanese shall be enslaved as a race or destroyed as
a nation, but stern justice shall be meted out to all war criminals, including those who
have visited cruelties upon our prisoners. The Japanese Government shall remove all
obstacles to the revival and strengthening of democratic tendencies among the
Japanese people. Freedom of speech, of religion, and of thought, as well as
respect for the fundamental human rights shall be established.
10. 우리는 일본 민족이 노예가 되거나 일본국이 멸망하기를 바라지 않는다.
그러나 우리의 포로들을 학대한 자들을 포함한 모든 전범들은 엄격하게 재판[4]
받을 것이다. 일본 정부는 일본 인민들의 민주주의적 성향의 부활과 강화를 가로막는
모든 장애물을 제거해야 한다. 기초적인 인권을 존중하는 것 뿐만 아니라 언론, 종교
그리고 사상의 자유가 확립되어야 한다.
11. Japan shall be permitted to maintain such industries as will sustain her economy
and permit the exaction of just reparations in kind, but not those which would enable
her to re-arm for war. To this end, access to, as distinguished from control of, raw
materials shall be permitted. Eventual Japanese participation in world trade relations
shall be permitted.
11. 일본은 자국을 전쟁을 위한 재무장을 시킬 수 있는 산업을 제외하면 경제를 유지할
수 있도록 각종 산업들을 유지할 수 있고, 현물로써 적절한 배상에 대한 징수를 허용해야
한다. 이를 위해, 지배와는 구별되는, 원자재에 대한 접근이 허가될 것이다. 최종적으로
는 일본의 세계 무역 거래의 참여가 허가될 것이다.
12. The occupying forces of the Allies shall be withdrawn from Japan as soon as
these objectives have been accomplished and there has been established in
accordance with the freely expressed will of the Japanese people a peacefully
inclined and responsible government.
12.연합국의 점령군은 이러한 목표가 완수되고 일본 인민들의 자유로운 의지에 따라
평화를 지향하는 책임 있는 정부가 수립되는 즉시 일본에서 철수할 것이다.
13. We call upon the government of Japan to proclaim now the unconditional
surrender of all Japanese armed forces, and to provide proper and adequate
assurances of their good faith in such action. The alternative for Japan is prompt
and utter destruction.
13. 우리는 일본 정부에게 이제 일본군의 무조건적인 항복을 선언하고 이러한 조치에
대한 일본 정부의 적절하고 충분한 성의있는 보장을 제공할 것을 촉구한다. 이에 대한
일본의 다른 대안은 즉각적이고 완전한 파멸이다.일격을 가할 태세를 마쳤다.
이 군사력은 일본이 저항을 멈출 때까지 전쟁을 수행할 연합국의 투지에 의해
유지되고 또 고무되었다.
